The rescheduled bout was held at the Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, 7th December 2002. HBO did not re-print another poster for the rescheduled bout.

In front of a crowd of 6,000 at the Mandalay Bay Casino & resort, the new reigning & defending WBC world lightweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr ran out a unanimous points winner against former champion Jose Luis Castillo whom Mayweather had taken the title from in a controversial decision. But this time round, the associated press reported: Mayweather refused to mix it up Saturday night with Jose Luis Castillo, a strategy that allowed him to keep his WBC lightweight title but drew boos from fans wanting some more action. Mayweather did just enough to win, using his jab and right leads to keep Castillo off balance and moving quickly away when the Mexican challenger tried to turn the fight into a slugging match. There were no knockdowns and no notable exchanges in the fight. HBO unofficial scorer Harold Lederman had Mayweather ahead 115-113 so did fellow HBO analyst Larry Merchant also scored it 115-113 for Mayweather. The Associated Press had the fight 116-112 for Mayweather. All 3 judges ringside scored the bout thus: Judge: Ken Morita 115-113: Larry O'Connell 116-113: Daniel Van de Wiele 115-113; all in favour of the champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.
