SUGAR RAY LEONARD vs. TERRY NORRIS (Onsite)

Description : We have here an original super rare vintage boxing fight poster from Madison Square Garden (MSG) New York, USA, 9th February 1991.

Terry Norris, the 23-year-old World Boxing Council super-welterweight champion, retained his title when he knocked Sugar Ray Leonard down twice en route to a unanimous decision at Madison Square Garden. Norris was simply too much for the 34-year-old Leonard, too young too quick and too strong.

After the decision was announced, Leonard walked Norris around the ring, holding one of the champion's hands up. Then Leonard praised Norris over the ring microphone, telling the crowd of 7,495 fans, "This is my last fight." Leonard said: "He was quick and too smart. He's a young Sugar Ray Leonard. He's going to get better. If he maintains the same focus, he's going to be around a long time." "It was a sad victory," Norris said. "He's my idol and I beat him badly. I didn't want it to be that way. He's still my idol." All three judges voted for Norris: Billy Costello had it 116-110, Barbara Perez 120-104, and Syd Rubinstein 119-103.
