Carl Froch retained his WBC super-middleweight crown with a scrappy split decision victory over Andre Dirrell. Froch started slowly in Nottingham and struggled to pin down his awkward and rather negative opponent, the American spent long periods running and holding, although he did catch Froch with some hurtful left hands, especially in the latter stages. Two judges scored the fight 115-112 in Froch's favour, while the third gave it to Dirrell 114-113. However, they were in unanimous agreement on only four of the 12 rounds, illustrating what a difficult bout it was to score.
