Description : Here we have a super-rare onsite poster from that infamous night at Wembley Arena when Alan Minter, the reigning & defending undisputed world middleweight champion faced off against the American challenger Marvelous Marvin Hagler for the undisputed world middleweight championship on 27th September 1980.
Defending champion Minter. returned to his old attacking style & it cost him dearly, the bout was stopped due to cuts around Minter's eyes. The worst wound was a gash over his left eye, which Hagler opened in the first round. Minter had 15 stitches inserted in four cuts after the fight. Minter's corner had no complaints, but the crowd went berserk. Beer cans and bottles rained into the ring, and the fighters and officials were forced to flee the ring.
Nothing came easy for Marvin Hagler, especially the glory. What should have been the most resplendent night of his entire career was marred by hate and drunkenness and racism. But Hagler had waited so long, had endured so much, that when it was all over, he refused to let the mayhem undermine his satisfaction. “It was a dream fulfilled,” he said of the moment when he realized he had won. He had finally done it; he was the undisputed middleweight champion of the world. Seven long hard frustrating years of striving and struggling were, at long last, redeemed.
