He stayed true to his word by dismissing the challenge of Kell Brook in the O2 Arena, forcing the Sheffield fighters corner to throw in the towel after five furious rounds.

With fists of steel and a jaw of concrete, Golovkin has proved such a terrifying prospect that many of the worlds top fighters have been shamed into fleeing from the opportunity to face him in the ring. It is therefore to Brooks credit that he even dared to climb two weight divisions and go toe-to-toe with the Kazakh, but with his eye-socket smashed and his visibility impaired, it was the right decision to stop the fight.
