Description : Here we have an original super rare official onsite boxing fight poster for the WBC world welterweight championship title bout. Wembley Grand Hall, Wembley, London, England, 18th October 1987.
Reigning & defending WBC world welterweight champion Lloyd Honeyghan got the shock of his life when he lost his world crown by technical decision after a clash of heads split open his challengers eyebrow forcing the ending of the contest. Honeyghan was deducted one point in the eighth for the accidental headbutt that cut Vaca and forced the bout's stoppage. It proved disastrous as that one point deduction gave the challenger the world title as 2 of the judges ringside then had Vaca ahead.
Honeyghan's IBF belt was not at stake as the British Boxing Board of Control did not sanction 15 round title fights, which the IBF used at the time. Honeyghan is then stripped of the IBF belt after the fight for losing what amounts to a "non-title fight" in their eyes.
