British world title prospect Frank Bruno stepped over fighting for the British heavyweight crown & went straight for the European title shot against reigning & defending champion Anders Eklund from Sweden who had seized the crown in his previous fight against Steffan Tangstad of Norway. Bruno won the title by 4th round knockout to propel him into the top 10 world rankings & a showdown with Tim Witherspoon the following year.
