Description : Here we have an original onsite promotional boxing fight poster for the IBF world super featherweight championship title bout held at Blazers Night Club, Windsor, Berkshire, England. 9th August 1987.
Renowned former WBA world super featherweight champion & IBF challenger Rocky Lockridge came to England's shows in his quest for another world title when he faced of with the current IBF world champion Barry Michael who was viewed as the later day 'Cinderella Man' who had came out of the proverbial nowhere to seize world honours. This would be Barry's 4th defence of his IBF crown. Lockridge had lost his WBA crown to Wilfredo Gomez in 85 & failed in his attempt at the WBC version held by Julio Cesar Chavez in 86 & now had set his hopes on the last remaining sanctioning body, the IBF.
This would be a competitive battle, but the superior pedigree of the challenger showed throughout the bout, the champion offered stubborn resistance but was eventually on the point of being overwhelmed & at the end of the 8th round the fight was over as Michael did not answer the bell for the 9th round & was retired on his stool. All 3 judges scoring ringside had the Challenger ahead at the time of the retirement by scores of 80-73; 78-73; 77-75... and the 'New' IBF super featherweight champion .. Rocky Lockridge.
