Description : Here we have an original onsite poster for the final eliminator for the WBC super-featherweight title bout held at the G-Mex Centre Arena in Manchester England on 31st May 1989.

Former WBA featherweight champion Barry McGuigan was on his 4th fight back after his self-imposed 2 year lay off after his shock defeat at the hands of Texan late substitute Stevie Cruz. It proved to be a futile quest as the fight was stopped in the fourth round due to a cut over McGuigan's right eye. The cut was caused by a McDonnell left hook in the second round. McGuigan announced his retirement after the fight. "I said when I started my comeback that if I lost I would retire. I don't intend to reverse that". McDonnell's next fight was for a world title. He fought Azumah Nelson for the WBC Super Featherweight Championship and was stopped in twelve rounds.
