Description : Here we have an original official onsite boxing fight poster for the WBC/IBF world welterweight championship title bout at Wembley Grand Hall, Wembley, London, England/UK, 22nd February 1987.

This was Lloyd Honeyghans first defence of his newly acquired world title that he sensationally tore from the head of the reigning defending undisputed welterweight champion in sensational style by stopping Donald Curry via a 6th round TKO in Atlantic City. A result that shook the boxing world to the core, The fight was considered to be such a mismatch that some oddsmakers refused to issue a betting line.

Challenger Johnny Bumphus the former WBA light-welterweight title holder was brutally dispatched by TKO at 55 seconds of the 2nd round. Bumphus down in 1st and 2nd. The knockdown in the 2nd came when Honeyghan rushed off his stool before the bell and floored Bumphus. Honeyghan was penalized one point by the referee.

The WBA title was not at stake since Honeyghan had to chosen to vacate it in protest of the apartheid policy of South Africa, after the WBA had mandated his first defense be against South African, Harold Volbrecht.
