Reigning & defending WBC/WBA/IBF world light-heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr hammered his challenger into defeat at 1.41 of the 11th round to win by TKO. Hall came into this fight as the interim WBA light heavyweight champion. Roy Jones put the challenger down twice in the 1st round then proceeded to issue a beating upon Hall until referee Wayne Kelly stopped the fight in the eleventh round with Hall taking a hammering in Jones' corner. Many felt the bout should have been stopped sooner. HBO commentator Larry Merchant said, "The referee ought to be pistol whipped for allowing that to go on."All three ringside official had Jones well ahead after ten rounds.
