This was Billy Hardy's 1st defence of his British Bantamweight title since losing in his title challenge to Orlando Canizales by split decision for the IBF bantamweight strap. This time he was up against Glasgow's Ronnie Carroll. They had fought in 1989 with Billy Hardy winning on points. This time the fight was stopped in the eighth with Hardy retaining his title.
