Description : Here we have a super rare vintage onsite poster produced for the 1979 WBC Welterweight championship battle between reigning & defending champion, Mexican, Carlos Palomino & Puerto Rico's Wilfred Benitez. Palomino is the very same accomplished boxer who came to England in 1976 and defeated John H Stracey to become the new WBC Champion. Carlos Palomino was up against a young upstart of a defensive phenomena in Wilfred Benitez who had a few years earlier become the youngest ever world champion when he won the Lt/Welterweight title at the age of just 17years. His championship run ended in 1979, when he traveled to Puerto Rico, where he was defeated on January 13 by hometown boxer Wilfred Benitez via a controversial fifteen round split decision. This is the only ever poster we have seen from this fight...
